The History of the Original Viennese Snowglobe

                  ..... how it all started.....
Original Vienna Snowglobes
1406 Snowman
It was in the year of 1900 when Erwin Perzy I, toymaker to the Kaiser, created the very first snowglobe.
He lived in a house not too far from Schonbrun, Austria, where the beauty of Vienna brought forth his first design, the Basilica of Maria Zell, in a globe that contained snow made from ground rice.

The first glass globe measured 40mm diameter on a gypsum base which was painted black.  Through the years he created more and more new scenes and it was about 1920 when he decided to manufacture the snowglobes in 20, 40, and 60mm sizes.

In 1970, production of 35, 45, and 80mm snowglobes began and a 120mm snowglobe was first produced in 1977.

Today, the tradition continues with grandson, Erwin Perzy III producing snowglobes the same as his grandfather, and, in that same house in Vienna.  The factory has had the distinction of manufacturing many special orders at times, just one of a kind piece or, sometimes, thousands of just one style.  They have also produced snowglobes for many famous movies, for industry and for large corporations.

The Original Austrian Snowglobe has given much joy and delight to millions of people and now it is sought after by collectors all over the world.  Produced completely by hand, if the factory produces one or thousands of a style, each piece is as unique as a snowflake......
